The Gen X Gamer is a personal site about Nintendo and retro gaming. This page explains what happens to personal information on thegenxgamer.com.
What we collect
- When you sign up for the newsletter. Your first name, if you give one, and your email address. These are held by Acumbamail, our newsletter provider. You will get an email asking you to confirm before anything is sent, every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and nothing reaches Acumbamail unless you submit the form.
- When you contact us. If you message us on Twitter or by email, we keep what you send so that we can answer.
- When you visit this site. Nothing. There is no analytics on this site, no advertising, and no cookies are set by it.
Like every web server, ours records the address of each request, the browser making it and the time. Those logs keep the site working and secure.
Videos
Video thumbnails on this site are served from this site. Nothing is requested from YouTube until you press play on one — at which point the player loads from youtube-nocookie.com and YouTube’s own terms and privacy policy apply to what happens inside it. If you never press play, YouTube is never contacted.
How we use it
We use your email address to send you the newsletter you asked for, and nothing else. We do not sell it, and we do not share it.
Who else sees it
Only the services that run the site: our web host, and Acumbamail for the newsletter. Some of them store information outside Canada, where the laws of that country apply.
How long we keep it
Your newsletter subscription lasts until you unsubscribe, which you can do from the link in any email. Messages you send us are kept as long as they are useful, and then deleted.
Your rights
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Reach us on Twitter at @genxgamer1978 (opens in a new tab) and we will answer. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (opens in a new tab).
