So, Why Nintendo?

As a child of the 80s, the Nintendo Entertainment System was one of my main forms of entertainment. Gaming was a long different; with no online, couch co-op made videogames a fun, social activity, which now has a lot of nostalgia for me. Over the years I’ve also gamed on my PC and several Sony consoles, but it was never quite the same as the feelings I would get from classic Nintendo systems like the NES, SNES and Gameboy.

For awhile, the adult world pulled me away from gaming, but once I became a dad videogames were a great way to share parts of my childhood with my kids. While my daughter enjoys some gaming, its really my son and I that have connected over my Nintendo nostalgia and general love of retro games. This project gives me a chance to revisit some classics, and document them here for fellow Gen X gamers, as well as younger gamers who would have missed out playing these classic systems the first time around.

I hope that you enjoy this site and the videos – you’ll notice that there isn’t really much commentary (apart from reviews) and this probably won’t look like what you’re used to seeing on Twitch or other YouTube gaming channels. If there’s anything you’d like to see more of, you can always reach us on twitter – @genxgamer1978.

Other Systems That Will Make Their Way Onto This Page…

Other systems will make an appearance too! We recently got our hands on a VirtualBoy, and I’ve pulled the WiiU out of storage for one last run. We’ll be adding Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival and Super Mario Maker longplays from that system very soon. We might even fire up some Wii and Gamecube games as we make our way through the backlog.

But before, we get to that, I came across a pretty big stash of stuff…

I found a whole bunch of Japanese Gameboy & Gameboy Color Games…

About The Gen X Gamer

Welcome to the Gen X Gamer! I’ve been gaming on Nintendo systems since the mid-eighties, and now I am lucky enough to share my love of gaming with my son. We’ve recorded a ton of gameplay footage across different generations of Nintendo systems, and we’ll be sharing them as we get them ready.

We try to make most content family friendly, but some games are a little more mature than others (Like The Walking Dead: Season 1 by Telltale or Resident Evil 4 by Capcom) so we do rate our content by how age appropriate it is.

If you have any questions, the best way to reach us is via twitter – @genxgamer1978. Thanks!

Interested in More Than Just Gaming?

Apart from gaming, I spend A LOT of time with comic books. So much so, that in 2013 I launched Lucha Comics – a publisher of awesome, independent stories. You can check it out by clicking the logo below, and you can also visit Comics Cantina, where I’ll be going through my collection that I’ve been building for nearly 40 years.

Never Miss An Update.
